When It Ain't Broke…Or Rather, When It Is

I'm not afraid to say when something isn't working, it's gotta go. And the new prompted version of Fresh Face Friday is saying "So long!" after only one month of its trial run. I'm bummed, y'all. But the gosh honest truth of it is--I just didn't see enough participation to keep coming up with things to write about and putting forth time & energy to constantly remind people to write about said prompts. I started to feel like I was beating a deader than dead horse. People just weren't that into it...and that's cool. Sad I couldn't make it a thing (because every blogger wants to have their weird ideas become things, amiright?), but I know we all have our own editorial calendars and things we want to share, so you gotta do you. And I've gotta do me. That's the beauty of blog world! What's good for the goose isn't always good for the gander.

I am SO GRATEFUL for those of you who took the prompts seriously, wrote posts, and had fun with it. I got warm fuzzies reading each and every one of your posts (I did read them all!) and felt bummed when I finally realized I might need to nix the prompts. Even though my blog was getting more comments on Friday posts (which was so appreciated!), participation in FFF dropped by half. My blog getting more comments wasn't the point or goal of adding prompts. No sirree. The point was to keep the hop fresh, keep readers engaged, and give us all something fun to write about from time to time. But at the rate it was going, I felt like I was doing more of a disservice to my sponsors than I was creating networking opportunity. I hate getting rid of something that even a few enjoyed, but I don't want to loose traffic for my sponsors (that is why the blog hop even came to be in the first place) and I don't want to loose people who religiously (and respectfully) linked up each Friday. Connections were being made and I can't deny that just because I want my ideas to work. So, we're going back to a non-prompted version of the Fresh Face Friday Blog Hop, starting THIS FRIDAY!

To those of you who were all for the prompted version, participated, and shared your hearts....THANK YOU! It was a sweet month. Heck, I even enjoyed writing about random stuff each Friday. Kept my creative juices flowing and the prompts allowed me to share more about myself with each of you. For those of you who skipped out the last 2 FFF's because of the prompts, come back! Link up whatever your heart desires in the coming weeks, but please, don't forget to visit other bloggers, leave heartfelt comments, and MAKE CONNECTIONS! That's really my only goal each Friday. Build community, get inspired, and spread the love, y'all. I'm going to try my darnedest to get to each blog that links up and leave love myself (I've been a lazy commenter this summer--tisk tisk). This blog is ever-growing, ever-changing--kinks and all! I hope to still have you all along for the journey!

Want to work together to get your creative space noticed?

The Evolution of a Blog & Blogger: 3 Years & Counting…

 photo blogiversary3copy_zpsc2933685.jpg

I can hardly believe it, but somehow this little creative space 'o mine just had its 3rd birthday. THREE YEARS! Yesterday, to be exact. My blog is no longer a baby…it's a walking, talking toddler, with a brand and goals and a voice all it's own. I don't usually celebrate blog birthdays, but I felt a strange nudge to acknowledge it this year. This particular blog birthday symbolizes more than just the birth of a blog, but also the end of a journey. Not the end of blogging (you can't get rid of me that easily), but the end of what compelled me to begin blogging in the first place...our life in Germany. I started writing just as our journey to Germany began…the orders, the movers, the long days of living in hotels and acclimating to our new host country. During year one, I'm pretty sure my mom, my friends, and a few select MilSpouse bloggers I somehow befriended were the only people who even read my blog. I wrote to keep everyone updated on our adventures, never worrying about grammar, punctuation, or using too many ill-placed exclamation points. Gosh, I loved exclamation points. I had no clue you could turn your blog into a business and that earning a little side hustle was a sought-after "thing." Ahhh, blogging was simpler then. No expectations, no comparisons, just sharing what was going on in my life as I was living it. That's how it starts for most of us, no? With intent only to write an online diary…naive to all the other avenues of blogging. And then one day, you wake up and want more. Or at least that's where I found myself at the end of year one.

In year two, I spent time changing my design, linking-up with every link-up I could find, and commenting on hundreds of blogs just to get my face out there. My real life amped up with travel, so I began carving a little niche out for myself in the travel blogger realm. Slowly but surely, I began to feel embraced in my new niche…and that's where my blogging fire really started burning. I yearned to be an integral part of the blogging community--that travel blogger everyone loved and couldn't live without, even if it meant I had to write or participate in things I wasn't so keen on doing. Around my 26th birthday (and the beginning of one of the hardest years of my life emotionally), I dove into the sponsorship world head first and pushed myself to write like everyone else. Be funny, be thoughtful, be relevant! I toyed around with different voices but continued to feel unsettled. I thought I needed a persona…anything to make me stand out, or rather, fit in. Even though inside I felt confused, my page views steadily grew and other bloggers bought ads on my blog. WHOO HOO! I was relevant! I was popular! I was IN DEMAND! GIMME GIMME GIMME! The numbers game was on and I was caught all up in it. No stat was ever high enough and my eyes became green with envy. The harsh realities of blogger comparison were slowly revealed to me and instead of marching to the beat of my own drum, I became a blogging robot and felt my mojo deflating. Although I was getting the exposure I wanted, I struggled finding the joy in blogging and spent dozens of nights crying about not being good enough. I just couldn't keep up. I was disgusted at myself and the way blog world was moving (and the way I wanted to conform to it), so I figured getting out while I was ahead would be a smart choice. On 3 separate occasions in year two, I almost closed up shop…but even that never felt right. Quitting was in my nature, but not in His divine plan.

Towards the end of year two, I parted the blogging fog over my heart. I decided the only way to make blogging work for me was to blog my way. There isn't a blogging "rule book" anyway, so why was I putting so much pressure on myself to write everyday…write a certain way…and focus so much on trivial things that I never fully enjoyed the space I was creating. Year three, I was going to rejuvenate my views on blogging (and my design because, well, it was time again). WHO CARES if I compose a post of "too many" photos or ramble on and on in circles instead of keeping things short and sweet? You don't like that my punctuation is too liberal or that my sentences run on? There's a little red "x" you can click, won't hurt my feelings any longer! Yeah, I make a little money from this space and I'm not ashamed to say that. Think I'm selling out and not "writing for me?" I'm sorry you view blogging in such a black and white way…if you need to leave, as Juan Pablo would say, "It's OK!" Not every blog is for every one. While it took some time for me to realize this, I've made it my blogging mantra. In year three, I rekindled my love for meaningful interactions, focused more on transparency, and began to write how I talk in real life, instead of how I thought blog world wanted me to write. I took a good, hard look at what parts of blogging I loved and clung to them, discarding all the bits (and bloggers) that no longer fit me or the space I wanted to nourish with realness and positivity. While the comparison monster still rages on occasion, I've found ways to contain him. If I need to step away, I don't feel apologetic about doing so. While I still offer sponsorships, I've found ways to make them fun and worthwhile for those who sponsor AND for myself. Even though I continue to look at my pageviews and enjoy growing my readership, I don't stress if the numbers are stagnant or the opportunities don't come. While I'm far from having it all figured out, in year three I found I'm a happier blogger staying true to myself, my way.

Truth be told, there are times I still fall prey to the blogger I was in year two, but those pits are much easier to crawl out of these days. In the start of year four, I'm motivated by so much more than the numbers and the accolades. I'm motivated by you guys. The emails, the comments, the tweets and sweet ways you let me know I'm doing alright. Over these last few years, I've marveled at how this space where I started chronicling our journey abroad has morphed and changed into such a visceral part of who I am and what I do. I've watched my perspective change, my photography evolve, my content grow, and my readership flourish…all the while finding solace in an activity so weird and so wacky, even I can't quite put my finger on its pulse. Even in my year of uncertainty, through all the mistakes made and growing pains, I've found myself peeking over the blogging horizon…finding my rhythm and honing in on the unique voice I've been searching for these last 3 years. Some days, it's hard to remember my life before blogging. Which makes me interested to see where this space will take me once our life stateside starts up again. It's funny, but yesterday, as I started thinking about writing this post, I realized my blog birthday falls on the same day as my late MeeMaw's birthday (cue goosebumps). She passed away just 4 months before this blog dream came to fruition in my life. I never talked about blogging with her, but maybe my blog birthday falling on her birthday isn't just a coincidence. I like to think she's watching over our family in various ways. Maybe this blog is MeeMaw's gift to me...keeping me busy and engaged while I'm so far away from my family and my career. Giving me something to work hard at and be passionate about. She was so into creating lasting memories and "remembering who you are," maybe she knew I needed this place to chronicle this particular chapter of my life. So I could look back someday and remember who I was and who I've grown to be throughout this amazing adventure. Whatever divine reason this space came to be, I'm thankful that it's here. I'm looking forward to nurturing it more and giving it room to move in whatever direction it may go in days to come.
Happy 3rd birthday, We Took the Road Less Traveled. Cheers to many, many more!

[In case you're fairly new around here or just never took a walk down my blog's memory lane, here's a healthy smattering of the posts I love and posts that have been popular throughout my 3 year blogging journey. And as always, thanks for reading!!]

The Colors of Travel: Capture the Colour Photo Challenge 2013

I'm sure many of you have seen (or even already entered) Travel Supermarket's Capture the Colour Photoblogging Competition that's been floating around blog land. I was recently tagged by Christine of Christine in Spain to participate, so I thought, what the heck...let's give it a go! The basic premise of the contest is to choose photos from your own travels that fall into the 5 different color categories of red, green, yellow, blue, and white. When I initially started combing through the mounds of photos from our travels, I basically had a panic attack. I was overwhelmed with only choosing one photo that embodied each color perfectly! Blue seemed to give me the most trouble. I even had to consult my husband a few of my favorite photography inclined friends for their unbiased eyes and honest opinions. Thankfully, I got myself together and chose what I think turned out to be a nice round-up of some of my favorite colorful photos from our jaunts all over Europe. While I'm quite positive I won't win a thing, it was definitely a fun challenge to participate in. Not only did I get to take a walk down memory lane while perusing my travel photos, I also got to see how much my photography skills have evolved over time. I only hope they continue to grow as I keep venturing out of my comfort zone both life and photography-wise. :)

So, tell me, what are your favorites from the collection of colors below?

RED
[Lisse, Holland -Keukenhof souvenirs]

GREEN

BLUE

YELLOW
[Santorini, Greece- sunset sail in the caldera]

WHITE
[Zermatt, Switzerland- ski chalet]

The last part of the challenge was to nominate 5 other bloggers to join in on the fun. These 5 ladies below are no strangers to travel or great photos, so I hope they'll all enter as well! The contest entry deadline is October 9th, so get on it gals! :) Not nominated? No worries! You can still submit your colorful travel photos here!

I nominate:
Amanda of Living In Another Language
Chelsea of Lost In Travels
Rachel of Postcards From Rachel
Bonnie of A Compass Rose
Nicole of La Mia Vita

To You, My Loyal Readers

I'm the kind of person who doesn't like to stick to one particular activity for too long. Growing up, I cycled through ballet, tap, tumbling, cheerleading, piano playing, basketball, chorus, and softball...never sticking with one extracurricular for longer than 3 or 4 years. I'm obviously a bit of a tumbleweed. As soon as I'd get the hang of one sport (and by hang I mean not sitting on the bench the whole game), I'd change my mind and want to try something else. What can I say? I bore easily. But I also have the need to keep testing myself. Probably why I'm keen on trying new things. Enter: blog world. I started reading blogs just as D was about to go off on his first deployment in 2010. I had this half-brained plan that I was going to write my own blog chronicling our life during a deployment...but, life ended up handing me other plans and my career jumped to the forefront, keeping me much busier than any blog ever could. After D returned from duty, we got orders to Germany and I began thinking about blogging again. I was still reading blogs (mostly military wife blogs at the time) and the challenge of writing about my life still intrigued me. So, upon planning our move abroad and quitting my full-time job, I finally dove into blog world head first.

In the beginning, blogging was just a way for me to keep our family and friends updated on our move to Germany. Today, while it still serves its original purpose, my blog has grown into so much more than I could have ever dreamed for it to become. Being a serial "quitter", as I've been known to call myself, I always figured this blogging thing wouldn't last long. I'd write and share photos for a few months, a year maybe, but it wasn't something I saw myself committing to everyday...or even molding into a business. In fact, I never knew a career or business could be a product of blogging. That thought seemed so foreign to me. Sometime after a year writing whenever I felt like it or whenever I had something fun to share, I got this twinge of inspiration to kick this blogging thing into high gear. Last September, I began networking with other bloggers and really started feeling embraced by blog world. That just fueled my fire to want to write and share on a bigger scale. What was once a fleeting hobby was slowly turning into something I was passionate about doing. All those other sports and extracurricular activities I'd tried sporadically throughout childhood hardly compared to the way blogging made me feel. And for once in my life, I was actually GOOD at the activity I was doing. You guys don't want to see me do a pirouette or play 1st base. It ain't pretty. But blogging, I feel comfortable with. I'm safe with. I'm at home here amongst the computer keys and HTML coding. And it's not because I write like Hemingway. Definitely not. It's because of all of you, my amazing, loyal, fun-loving, wanderlusting readers.

This whole blogging thing is funny, isn't it? Some random person sits behind a computer screen each day, writing about their life and whatever else pops into their mind. Everyday, we grab our cups of coffee, power on our desktops, and click around the blog world reading mere fractions of their lives, hoping to connect with them in some small way. We watch as voices evolve, families expand, vacations are taken, love ones are lost, careers are started, and relationships blossom...all the while becoming invested in the life of an individual we've never met, but have somehow grown to love.

I don't know how or why, but you guys keep coming back to this little space of mine each week. I am humbled every morning as I open my emails to see another sweet message from someone I've never met, telling me how much they enjoy my blog and how they can't wait to read more. These are emails I never thought I'd be getting, but have become such a blessing to my life. As overwhelming as this blogging lifestyle can get at times, it's something I don't think I could ever tire of. Sure, there are days I get frustrated and want to throw in the towel, but then I see a boost in pageviews or a few new comments from thoughtful readers and all those frustrations fall to the wayside again. I am so grateful to each and every one of you for taking the time out of your busy lives to read about my own. Some days I'm in awe of the community I'm a part of and the connections I've made, all a product of sharing my heart, our travels, and bits and pieces of the things that make me who I am. You've helped keep me engaged and busy on those days where life seems lonely across the pond from all my family and friends. You've celebrated when I've celebrated. You've wandered where I've wandered (virtually counts, as far as I'm concerned). You've encourgaged me when encouragment was lacking. And you've embraced me into a world full of inspiring, like-minded individuals who continue to bless my heart on a daily basis.

Needless to say, blogging has become an integral and visceral part of me. Believe me, my family is just as shocked as I am. Finally, an activity I couldn't dream of quitting! It's true, I can't quit you people. None of this would be half as fun if it wasn't for each of you. You guys give me the motivation and excitement to keep pressing publish each morning. There aren't quite enough words in the world to even being telling you how thankful I am to have been embraced by this community and to have made so many long lasting friendships through something so wacky and wonderful as the world of blogging. While this hardly scratches the surface of thankfulness in my heart, I want to give you, my faithful readers, a chance to win a little token of my gratitude. I so wish I had the means to give a gift to each and every one of you, but alas, I am not Oprah. Maybe if you guys stick around and spread the word, someday I'll be the next Oprah?! See the things you make me dream about? Today, as I a sit here and revel in my blog-fueled happiness, I hope you'll take a quick second and enter the simple Rafflecopter below. I chose to give you the chance to win some PayPal cash so all my expat friends out there could get in on the fun, too! I'm gonna need Target to get on that whole shipping internationally thing, otherwise, this giveaway could have been way cooler. But, cash works, right? I thought so...now get to entering!

And as always, thank you for reading, thank you for commenting, and thank you for caring enough to keep on clicking on We Took the Road Less Traveled each day. I only hope this little creative space of mine continues to thrive and be a fun place that inspires a healthy dose of love and wanderlust in each of you. I big puffy heart love you all!

Mentionables

Hey there, friends! Hope each of you are having a lovely Thursday. Not much going on around my neck of the woods today. So much so that I really don't even have a great blog post planned. I thought about editing more travel photos, but I just don't wanna. Then I thought about sharing my cauliflower pizza crust recipe that I nailed first time 'round the other night, but the photos I took are total crap. So, that's out (but I'll share it soon, promise!). Then I thought maybe I should write something profound and thought-provoking today. Then I remembered I rarely have anything profound and thought-provoking to say. So, today you get more of the weird and interesting stuff I've found on the internets over the last few weeks. I bookmark these things to share when I've got nothing to share from my own brain. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. OH! And make sure you come back tomorrow and link-up to the Fresh Face Friday Blog Hop! Purty, please? See you then!

^^This is my life.^^

I am utterly shocked and dismayed that my Glamour Shots didn't make this list. SHOCKED. I mean, I'm rockin' the feather boa, the studded jacket, the hat, AND some bouffant hair. The Glamour Shot quadruple threat, if you will. Buzzfeed really missed the mark on this one. Also, this is the second time these photos have appeared on my blog. Consider yourselves some lucky individuals. Oh, and you're welcome Amanda Marshall.

Oh my gosh...you guys. If you've never watched videos of Maymo the dog before...you're in for an adorable treat. I found this too-cute-for-words pup on YouTube a long time ago, but have watched almost all of his videos at least 10 times over. He's kind of my go-to when I'm having a crappy day. Cheers me up instantly. I cannot get over how he just sits and stares and lets his owner do just about anything to him. And his new puppy friend? Cuteness overload. Maymo is pretty much the coolest dog in the entire world...next to my Tucker dog, of course. The video above is my favorite, but here and here are a few runners-up that I can't stop watching. Maymo, you've stollen my heart.

This mom is a friggin' genius...and also somehow has too much time on her hands.

Humans of New York. I've been scanning photos and reading these blurbs for a little while now. Some of them are sad, some funny, some are downright strange...but all of them are real, honest, and just so darn refreshing. It's a fascinating world full of fascinating people we live in. I just had no idea most of them lived in NYC.

Also...
Should I buy this?
I'm thinking yes.

Make sure you check out today's Google doodle. It's a winner.

Six Things

Does this picture frighten you? This is what France does to people. Makes them all crazy happy and apt to run down cobblestone streets with googly eyes. I assume this is also what I look like when I see someone I love walking into a party I'm at. OMG HEY!!! I'VE MISSED YOU! LET'S GET SOME WINE! Ahem...anywho, I was tagged in this post by the lovely Rachel of Postcards from Rachel (OMG HEY RACH!) and so I thought, what the heck? There are a lot of new faces around these parts lately, so why not share a bit more about the girl behind this blog you read everyday.
You do read everyday, right? {Nods yes.} Gooood girls and boys. ;)

1| What is the best piece of advice anyone's ever given you?
Remember who you are. Those 4 words were spoken to me almost every day by my beautiful MeeMaw (also known as my grandma for those of you not inclined to Southern nicknames for grandmothers). Ever since I can remember, my MeeMaw would end our phone conversations with "Always remember who you are!" Those words are always in the forefront of my mind with every decision I make in life (even more so now that she's no longer with us). As long as I stay true to myself and all the things that make me who I am (most notably my values, morals, and my family), I can do no wrong.

2| If you could meet any blogger in person, who would you choose?
I think it's pretty impossible for me to just pick one single blogger I'd love to meet in person, so I'm cheating a bit and picking 2. First, I'd love to meet Amanda from the visually inspiring blog Marshalls Abroad. Amanda and I have been chit chatting back and forth about how similar our lives are for months now (i.e.- our undeniable love for Christ, Pottery Barn, wine, our handsome military husbands, & traveling the world, just to name a few similarities) and having the large continent of Asia between us is almost unbearable! I'd love to sit down in some adorable Pot Barn chair, enjoy a glass of her homemade sangria, and mull over all of the cosmic reasons we were destined to be soul sistas with her someday. Manda Sue, it's gonna happen. You can bet your cute pregnant butt on it! ;)

I'm also kind of sort of dying to meet the lovely Jenni of Story of My Life. Honestly, who isn't dying to meet her? She's such a sweetheart. Her blog was one of the first blogs I ever started reading and since then, I've only grown to love Jenni and her captivating photos and writing style even more. Not to mention, her mom has a weenie dog. I kind of sort of need to meet Norman, too. Then have Jenni show me around the glorious town of Austin, Texas, take me to Gourdough's for the to-die for doughnuts she's been gabbing about, and take photos of me in some glowing wheat field somewhere. Because that HAS to happen. Have you seen her photog skills? I die. Jenni & Amanda, I think a blate is in order. Sooner rather than later, capiche?

3| Blogs you're loving right now?
Interestingly enough, I get emails with this question a lot. Not sure why, but in case anyone else was wondering, aside from the two amazing bloggers I listed above (and the mound of other fabulous blogs I read daily...too many to list 'em all!), I'm kind of nuts about Jenny Highsmith, Delightfully Tacky, Across the Pond, Fairytales Are True, Tales of Me & The Husband, Living in Yellow, Lark & Linen, Mr. & Mrs. Globetrot, Chronicles of Ruthie Hart, Kendi Everyday, So Shay, Lost in Travels, La Mia Vita, Explore Dream Discover, A Beautiful Mess, Hello Hue, The Bloggess, Eat Yourself Skinny, Chasing Heartbeats, Big Mario Life, Because Shanna Said So, A Compass Rose, The Daily Tay, Postcards From Rachel, The Life of the Wife, M Loves M, Found Love, Now What, The Doctors Fleming, Home Is With You, Jessica Lynn Writes, Living In Another Language, The Nectar Collective, and Aspiring Kennedy.
Whew! That enough blog reading for ya? When they post, I click. Go visit them all, y'all.

4| What's your biggest struggle in life?
I'd have to say I struggle most with being happy in the now. I'm always trying to find the next best place to travel, the next fun activity, thinking up my next big goal, or itching to change something about myself or my house or my life that I totally miss out on the amazing things happening to me right this very moment. I have a hard time sitting still, being quiet, and just taking things in. My mind goes about a million miles a minute and just as something awesome is coming to fruition, I'm already antsy to move on to the next new thing, whatever it may be. My restless tendencies feed into almost every aspect of my life some days. I can't seem to get one thing done without thinking up something else and completely changing directions. It's a weird, vicious cycle I go round myself with. Like one of those wind up monkeys that just spins in circles. Or like Jesse Spano when she flips out over caffeine pills because "THERE'S NEVER ANY TIME!" You guys know what I'm talking about. Thankfully, I'm learning to take the pressure off myself a bit and enjoy each moment for what it is, instead of plotting and planning how to make it better or how fast I can move on to the next cool part of my life. It's a slow process, but the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem, right? ;)

5| Favorite piece of jewelry (other than engagement/wedding rings) & why?
This necklace from BrideBlu. I bought this gem on a whim over a year ago. I loved it (and still love it) so much that I went out and bought one for each my best girlfriends. It's just the most perfect, dainty piece of everyday jewelry. Every girl should have one. I wear mine with almost every outfit I put on.

6| Tell us something we don't know about you.
I'm a bit of a scaredy cat. I don't do roller coasters (I hate that whole stomach-falling-out-your-butt feeling), I have irrational fears of passing out while driving & falling off of buildings to my death (but I don't have a fear of heights), and I avoid horror films like the plague. But I love a good zombie. I know, my brain makes no sense.

Choose 6 questions to answer yourself, ladies!:
1| If money were no object, what are 2 things you'd buy for yourself right now?
2| Pick 3 bloggers: who's your biggest blog crush, whose wardrobe would you love to steal, and who would you most like to travel with?
3| It's your last meal EVER...what are you eating?
4| You're road tripping across America. What 3 cities, landmarks, or touristy sights do you have to see?
5| Tell me about a time you felt in awe of something.
6| If you could tell blog world one thing (could be a tip, trick, gripe, praise, etc...), what would it be?
7| If you could pack up all your belongings and move to a new city or country, where would you move?
8| Do you believe in love at first sight? Why or why not?
9| If you could have your blog or an article from your blog published in a fabulous book or magazine, what publication would you pick and why?
10| Riddle me this. If winners never quit and quitters never win, how is it possible to quit while you're ahead?

Not tagged? No worries! Feel free to answer any of these questions on your own blog or in the comments section below. If you write up your own post, please, share it with me! I'd love to learn more about each of you! Happy Monday, friends!

Summer's Over, Here's Some Money!

I'm pretty sure the worst thing about the month of August is the inevitable close of summer. And for the unfortunate few, having to go back to school. I saw a 'back to school' commercial the other day and immediately died a little bit inside remembering how awful the thought of going back to school sounded. Thank the Lord that time in my life is over! But I do miss buying new notebooks and fancy pens. And maybe the occasional Trapper Keeper, but don't tell anyone that. Trapper Keepers aren't cool when you're 26. Anywho, to make that transition from the vacation-filled lazy days of summer to bagged lunches, mean teachers, and riding the bus with that weird kid that's always picking his nose a little easier, me and a few fabulous bloggers (I mean, check out the company I'm keeping, even I can't believe it) are giving YOU the chance to win $1,000 smackaroos! Use it to buy new duds, a fresh new do, or $1,000 worth of cool pens and Trapper Keepers. Whatever floats your boat, people. I don't judge.

You Found Me How??

[Friends don't let friends take photos with their husbands in pumpkin patches. Ever.]

Blog world is a funny thing, isn't it? We bloggers spend hours of our day, everyday, writing about the innermost workings of our lives...all on display for the world to read. Sometimes we write serious things, other times we write nonsense about the day to day drivel we encounter. We wait with bated breath after pressing "publish" for that first comment or pageview. And then the second. And the third. But what I hardly ever wonder is how these people even found my blog in the first place. Most of the time I assume it's just my usual readers and followers clicking on my posts. But that hardly accounts for my total daily pageviews. There are more of you out there! So, what stroke of chance brought them to my creative space that particular day? Were they looking for travel inspiration? Most of the time, yes. Were they looking for a yummy recipe? On occasion, sure. Were they there to see photos of my cute husband? Dear Lord, I hope not. There's a real shiner above if you did happen to be looking for one today (sorry, babe). But, what I do know is that readers from all around the world come to We Took the Road Less Traveled through various avenues and for a wide variety of reasons. Tuesday morning, I spent the better part of an hour riffling through the over 600+ search words and phrases that have lead people to my blog over the last 2 years. I know practically every blogger does this on occasion. And if you haven't, you should! It's quite the comical endeavor. Some of the search phrases I've come across really make me question the world. More specifically, the people in it. It also makes me question Google. Or maybe just people's Googling skills? You be the judge.

Top 10 Strangest Search Terms That Brought You Here

1| How can I put my picture on the Eiffel Tower?
I hate to brake it to ya, but I don't think you can...whoever you are. You can take a picture while standing ON the Eiffel Tower (like these), but good luck getting away with sticking a photo of yourself on the tower itself. Question is, why would you want to do that anyway?

2| Pros & cons of being a pilates instructor.
I have not, nor will I ever, take a pilates class. Much less know anything about teaching it. I'm about the least coordinated person in the world and am a certified walking pilates/yoga-tastrophe. But I can tell you the pros & cons of living in Germany? Were you maybe looking for that?

3| What spices are in Weber's Kickin' Chicken seasoning?
Well, according to the bottle that I currently have sitting in my spice rack, there's dehydrated onion, salt, dehydrated garlic, spices, red pepper, dehydrated orange peel, sugar, dehydrated red bell pepper, & paprika. Wanna use it in a recipe? I guess I'm your girl.

4| How to poop in a German toilet.
I can tell you all about our German toilet, but I cannot and will not tell you how to poop in it.
You've gotta figure that one out on your own, buddy.

5| I'm uncomfortable to talk in English in front of my family.
I'm uncomfortable speaking German in front of practically everyone, so we've all got problems, now don't we?

6| Girls in naughty lingerie.
Really? Won't find that on my blog. Oh, wait.

7| Blog everyday about peeing your pants.
I mean, really. You blog about peeing your pants that ONE TIME and suddenly it's an everyday thing? No fair, people. That's the last time I share about my religious experiences with you guys. Geez. ;)

8| Japanese road puppy parts
Now, this is just disturbing. I honestly hope you didn't find what your were looking for, weirdo.

9| What is free on the Celebrity Refection cruise ship?
Nothing, that's what. But you should still go. Worth every not-free penny!

And my absolute favorite...

10| I need a good spell caster that can bring back my ex and my husband.
First of all, do I look like a witch or some kind of sorcerer to you? Far from it. The only spell I can cast for you is a good case of the the wanderlusts. Second of all, where did your ex and husband go? And why would you want to bring them BOTH back? Seems like a conflict of interest to me. You're asking for it, sister.
Other more flattering search terms?

1| Awsome photos from Paris.
Aww shucks, don't make me blush.

2| Award-winning deviled eggs.
They're not award-winning per se, but my husband gave them 2 thumbs up! [Also, don't pay any attention to my lack of photog skills in that post. It was one of my first posts EVER on the blog, pre-DSLR.]

3| Best sausage ball recipe.
Yep. You've come to the right place. They're granny (and military) approved.

4| Worthy blogs.
Worth of what? Your reading time? Why, thank you. You keep reading, I'll keep writing. ;)

Have you ever checked what search terms and phrases bring people to your blog? What's the strangest one you've gotten?

Ok, can we talk about Robin Thicke real quick before I go? Good, because I was going to anyway. This song is my new favorite jam, y'all. It comes on at the gym and I'm simultaneously running and gyrating like a crazy person. If you haven't heard it before, just watch the video below and dance your heart out. I would have shared the actual music video, but there are quite a few boobies in it. Model boobies. It's such a strange video, but he's so alluring I'd probably watch him carve a watermelon just out of sheer curiosity. Regardless, boobies and my blog don't mix, so you get the Today Show live version, minus Pharrell. Honestly though, could Robin be any more suave and sexy? Sure, he was born to probably about the least sexy TV dad in the world aside from Danny Tanner (think Growing Pains), but my gosh does he have a voice and some serious moves. Not to mention that he's been with his wife since they were teenagers. A musician after my own heart! I own all of his CD's (the Evolution of Robin Thicke disk provides some wicked good make-out music, in case you were wondering) and will be promptly purchasing his new one on iTunes just as soon as I'm done busting a move in my living room. Enjoy!

Happy Thursday, friends!
