FRESH FACE FRIDAY [& Blog Hop!]: Meet Carly & Erica (and a farewell...)

As with all good things...sometimes, well, they just reach a point in time where it's best they come to an end. This, my friends, is the very last Fresh Face Friday on We Took the Road Less Traveled. I know! Sad news for a Friday. :( We've had a good 1.5 year run, this little ad spot and blog hop o'mine. But as life moves foward and priorities change, I've been feeling the need to let go of one project in sacrifice for another.

As you all know, I launched Road Less Traveled Vacations in early December. Since then, business has been steadily growing (yay!), and with the blessing of growth comes the need to show my baby biz more of my undivided attention. Even though I so enjoyed connecting with and learning about the bloggers that sponsored FFF (as well as those bloggers who participated in the blog hop), I just can't devote the time to FFF as the project deserves. So, with that comes my decision to focus more on my travel business, as well as keep this blog alive by posting on a more natural basis. I don't want anything to feel forced. Even though FFF's will be gone, there will still be Featured Ad opportunities as well as medium and small ad spot open...for now, at least. ;)

That all being said, I want to thank each and every one of my fabulous Fresh Face Friday sponsors for suporting my creative space and sharing little pieces of your blog and stories with me these last few years. You've not only helped my blog to grow, but me to grow as a blogger and businesswoman as well. I am forever grateful for the fun we've had each Friday! And to my readers and those who linked up from week to week...you guys are AWESOME! I hope you've all made new blogger connections are were able to see some growth in readership (and friendships!) as well! Now, let's make this last Fresh Face Friday go out with a BANG! Say hello to these two lovely bloggers and link-up your own space to the hop. Make new friends and help me say farwell to the Freshest Friday of them all! Love and hugs to you, blog world!

FRESH FACE FRIDAY [& Blog Hop!]: Meet Emily Anne & Olya

Hey baby, let's go to VEGAS!! Today's the day...we're off to Sin City for 4 days filled with dancing, drinking, and maybe a scosche of gambling with my college roommate and her hubby! This whole trip came about thanks to D's birthday in early Feb and Nancy's 30th in late-Feb, so we thought no better way to celebrate two important birthdays than with some flashing lights and a little debauchery. Don't worry, Mom, we're too old to go too crazy (I envision a lot of whining and a fair amount of eye-rolling at the thought of staying out past midnight), but we're excited about letting our hair down just a bit. Especially after the stressful holiday season we just endured. Speaking of that, Tuck had his follow up vet appointment on Monday and the vet cleared him of strict crate rest! YAY! He's spent the week getting reacclimated to his walks around the neighborhood, chasing after his mini soccer ball, and frolicking around the back yard like the happiest pup in the world. If he could smile, he'd be smiling constantly these days. We're so thankful he's made a swift recovery, but we're still aware he's basically a ticking time bomb and could have another episode if we're not diligent with keeping him off furniture and away from stairs. So far, he's only escaped up the stairs once, but we were able to carry him back down before he had the chance to do it himself. That weenie will be the death of us, but we love him to pieces! If I have to die from the stress of keeping Tuck healthy, well, then I guess it'll be worth it. ;)

While I'm enjoying the spoils of Las Vegas, I hope you'll hang out with my fabulous co-hosts for Fresh Face Friday! I'm always so thrilled every time I get an email that a new blogger has linked up...even more stoked when I see connections being made in comments and on Twitter! Bloggers love community, so don't miss your chance to make new blog friends! Cheers to a safe and sassy weekend!

FRESH FACE FRIDAY [and Blog Hop!]: Meet Amanda & Rebecca

Happy Friday, everyone! I wish I had some super awesome things to talk to you about today, but my computer is rude and literally just deleted the heartfelt triple paragraph I wrote on life's musings this week. After I shouted and cursed the idiotic thing for 15 minutes, I realized I'd used all my brain power up and the thought of sitting back down to rewrite my blurb just made me even grouchier. Why does technology hate me so much some days?

That being said, just do me a solid and spend some quality time getting to know these two dear faces today. You won't regret it! While you're at it, link up your own blog and mix & mingle with new friends! I'm off to have a nice stern talking to with my iMac now. If you don't hear from me at all next week, you'll know things didn't go well. ;)

When It Ain't Broke…Or Rather, When It Is

I'm not afraid to say when something isn't working, it's gotta go. And the new prompted version of Fresh Face Friday is saying "So long!" after only one month of its trial run. I'm bummed, y'all. But the gosh honest truth of it is--I just didn't see enough participation to keep coming up with things to write about and putting forth time & energy to constantly remind people to write about said prompts. I started to feel like I was beating a deader than dead horse. People just weren't that into it...and that's cool. Sad I couldn't make it a thing (because every blogger wants to have their weird ideas become things, amiright?), but I know we all have our own editorial calendars and things we want to share, so you gotta do you. And I've gotta do me. That's the beauty of blog world! What's good for the goose isn't always good for the gander.

I am SO GRATEFUL for those of you who took the prompts seriously, wrote posts, and had fun with it. I got warm fuzzies reading each and every one of your posts (I did read them all!) and felt bummed when I finally realized I might need to nix the prompts. Even though my blog was getting more comments on Friday posts (which was so appreciated!), participation in FFF dropped by half. My blog getting more comments wasn't the point or goal of adding prompts. No sirree. The point was to keep the hop fresh, keep readers engaged, and give us all something fun to write about from time to time. But at the rate it was going, I felt like I was doing more of a disservice to my sponsors than I was creating networking opportunity. I hate getting rid of something that even a few enjoyed, but I don't want to loose traffic for my sponsors (that is why the blog hop even came to be in the first place) and I don't want to loose people who religiously (and respectfully) linked up each Friday. Connections were being made and I can't deny that just because I want my ideas to work. So, we're going back to a non-prompted version of the Fresh Face Friday Blog Hop, starting THIS FRIDAY!

To those of you who were all for the prompted version, participated, and shared your hearts....THANK YOU! It was a sweet month. Heck, I even enjoyed writing about random stuff each Friday. Kept my creative juices flowing and the prompts allowed me to share more about myself with each of you. For those of you who skipped out the last 2 FFF's because of the prompts, come back! Link up whatever your heart desires in the coming weeks, but please, don't forget to visit other bloggers, leave heartfelt comments, and MAKE CONNECTIONS! That's really my only goal each Friday. Build community, get inspired, and spread the love, y'all. I'm going to try my darnedest to get to each blog that links up and leave love myself (I've been a lazy commenter this summer--tisk tisk). This blog is ever-growing, ever-changing--kinks and all! I hope to still have you all along for the journey!

FRESH FACE FRIDAY [& Blog Hop!]: Irrational Fears

I more of a worry wort than most. I tend to gravitate towards the positive side of looking at various situations, but I'm also always on high alert. At any given moment I know Murphy (as in that pesky law no one likes) can strike, so while positive, I'm cautious in nature. With this cautiousness comes many irrational fears. Probably more than I should ever care to admit, but for the sake of using blogging as a form of cheap therapy...here's 3 of my most irrational of fears. No laughing. I know I'm nuts.

1) I'm terrified of passing out while driving and killing myself (and anyone in my path).
I feel like I have some rational justification for this one...sometimes. Other times, I think I start thinking about passing out while driving and get so worked up about it that I almost feel like it is actually happening. The mind is an insanely powerful thing, y'all. I'm not a stranger to passing out (I've done so at least 4 times in my life thus far), but never while driving. Needless to say, I'm not a huge fan of driving. I can't really put my finger on why, but I'm convinced it's probably the way I'll die. Either that or falling off a building into a pool and drowning. Another irrational fear for another blog post.

2) Long underground or underwater tunnels.
I'm slightly claustrophobic. Elevators are borderline scary for me at times. So driving through an excessively long underground or underwater tunnel where no light seems to be at the end of it--someone pass me a Xanax. I blame Will Smith and the ridiculous movie Independence Day for this one. You know the scene with the explosion in the tunnel and his whole family somehow magically finds the one tunnel door they could hide behind and not die? Yeah, I'm always looking for that door. Just like airplanes defy the law of gravity, tunnels are just an accident waiting to happen, in my head at least. Oh, and if an underwater tunnel looks leaky (re: you can see moisture or water dripping around it), don't even drive me through it.

3) Open closet doors, or drawers, or any door that someone can come out from behind & murder me at night.
I can't sleep with our bedroom door open. If a drawer is slightly ajar, it's gotta be closed before sleep can happen. Same with blinds...must be closed. If there was ever a chance for someone to glare at me with devil eyes from one of those open spaces, I'm positive I'd up and have a heart attack. I realize no one could actually fit into a drawer to come out a murder me, but snakes and rats and bugs could be in there. Close it so they can't get out...until morning when all murders and death creatures venture off to some other part of the world and I can freely open things. I also can't sleep on the side of the bed closest to the door...unless it's not the typical side of the bed I sleep on at home. Then, well, I choose the lesser of two evils. Totally legit, right? OMG, I'm certifiable.

Please don't let me be the only one with crazy irrational fears, y'all! Link up your top 3 to the hop today if only to make me feel less insane. Crazy loves company, you know? And don't forget to check out the two mentally stable bloggers below! Come back on October 10th for the next Fresh Face Friday...that is, if no closet killer has gotten me by then. Fingers crossed.

FRESH FACE FRIDAY [& Blog Hop!]: Greatest Trip of My Life

Is it cliche to admit I still count our honeymoon as the greatest trip of my life? Sure, I've traveled all over Europe...I've even done mission work in South America, but nothing compares to going on vacation with your husband for the very first time! D and I got married on a hot summer day in July of 2007 at the ripe young ages of 20 (me) and 21 (D)--hello child bride! When we were planning our wedding, I knew I wanted to honeymoon somewhere tropical and we both wanted to add stamps to our passports. After weighing our options with a travel agent, Jamaica ended up being the perfect spot to do both!

Guys, that vacation. It was single most relaxing, blissed-out trip I've ever taken. If you've ever planned a wedding, you know how stressful they are. We were even crazier planning one while we were still in college! After it was all said and done and we both had those shiny rings on our fingers, we were SO ready to blow off some steam and enjoy some time alone away from all the world. We stayed at Sandals Grande Riviera Ocho Rios Resort and had the best time ever. I had never been at such a luxurious resort (hello, honeymoon penthouse suite and personal concierge!)...all-inclusive, beautifully landscaped, secluded...they catered to our every whim. As two young kids with hearts in our eyes and nothing but the world ahead of them, we soaked up every ounce of pampering, spending hours at the beach day-drinking and every evening dining on mind-blowing meals and dancing the night away. When we weren't mooning over one another by the pool, we did leave the resort to climb Dunn's River Falls (so fun!) and explore Jamaica's Fern Gully. We even squeezed in a couples massage on the pier at sunset one evening. Talk about a dream! Even with the crystal blue water and the warm tropical breezes, our week in Jamaica was most memorable because it was the first time we'd ever traveled without our families--just the two of us. It was the beginning of a new and exciting chapter of life and we reveled in every sweet moment. I remember crying the morning we were rolling our suitcases down the hallway of the resort to go home. I knew no vacation would ever be able to compare. Since then, we've traveled to some pretty amazing places, but still, our Jamaican honeymoon stands out in my mind. 7 years later and I still beg D to take me back to Sandals!

Is there a trip you've taken that still reins supreme in your memory? Write up a post all about it and link it up to the Fresh Face Friday Blog Hop! Don't forget to visit my first two fabulous Fresh Faces below and read where their greatest trips have been! And now, the writing prompt for the next Fresh Face Friday is:

--Share three of your irrational fears--

See you back here September 26th! Happy weekending!

Refreshing Fresh Face Friday...

This might be my new favorite photo of D. No happier man than a man on vacation! I can't wait to get my iMac back so I can start sharing our Adriatic cruise photos with you. That vaycay feels like forever ago! Anywho...we made it to Friday, y'all. Whew! I hope you all had a nice, productive, fun-filled week, wherever in the world you are! We have another set of guests visiting with us this weekend...D's parents! D hasn't seen them in over a year, so needless to say he's on Cloud 9 hanging out with his dad and being spoiled by his momma. I've enjoyed watching them reconnect and getting to spend some quality family time with them myself!

I'm sure you've noticed, but there's no Fresh Face link up this week. In an effort to keep my load light and my sanity intact as we finish out the last steps of this transatlantic transition (i.e.-OUR STUFF IS BEING DELIVERED ON MONDAY!!!!! CUE THE HALLELUJAH CHORUS!!!)...I decided to reintegrate FFF back into my blogging routine a bit slower than normal (every 2 weeks instead of hosting once a week). Half to see how it would do again, and half to not overwhelm myself with too much at one time. So far, the response has been pretty good and I'm only hoping it will continue to grow as blog land awakens from its summer stupor. Tell me you guys have noticed how dead-as-door-nails this place has been recently? Like tap-tap-tap, is this thing on? Anywho, I feel like an upswing for blog world should be happening any day now, so I'll be revving up FFF with a new feature. Starting September 5th, I'll be trying out some writing prompts along with the blog hop! Now, don't freak out...it'll be fun!

How it will work:
1| I'll give a writing prompt a week before FFF goes live every other Friday.
(Example-I'll be giving you a prompt today that will be the writing topic for the blog hop on September 5th. On Sept 5th, I'll give you your topic for the hop on September 19th.)

2| You write a blog post on the topic. You've basically got 2 weeks to brainstorm & write away. Easy peasy.

3| Link up that specific blog post to the FFF Blog Hop.

4| Hop around, read posts, mix & mingle, and meet new-to-you bloggers!

Boom. Fresh Face Friday freshened up a bit. :) September will be a trial run for this whole writing prompt thing. Why am I even changing the format? Because sometimes it's hard to find things to write about. I get "bloggers block" more than I care to admit most days. At least this way, we all have one day a week where we'll know exactly what to write about! If it sucks and bloggers start showing up at my door for a Casey-lynching, then well, we'll go back to the no-prompt approach. I'm not one to try and make a round peg fit into a square hole. Hopefully, we'll all have some good stories to share, sharpen up our writing skills, and have some flippin' fun!

So, all that being said...wanna know your first writing topic for September 5th?!

Tell me about the greatest trip of your life.
It could be a family vacation, a mission trip, a big move abroad, a honeymoon...tell me about any trip you've taken (foreign or domestic) that left a long lasting impression on you. A trip of a lifetime, a vacation you can't stop bragging about, a trip you still talk about to this day...I WANNA KNOW! Make sure to add in fab pictures, because if this was the greatest trip of your life, we're gonna wanna see it!

Everyone got it? Good! If you've got topics you'd love to write about for future FFF, leave me your suggestions in the comments section...and I'll meet you back here September 5th for even more Fresh Face Friday fun! Want to be one of my Fresh Faces for September, you still have time to grab your spot at $5 OFF with code LETSPARTY! Happy weekending, friends!

The Return of Fresh Face Friday!

That's right, ladies and gents! Fresh Face Friday has returned! Or will return...as soon as I get some new Fresh Faces on board! Want that to be you?!? I do!! For the month of August, I'm offering 4 spots--with the official return of Fresh Face Friday (including the blog hop, yay!) scheduled to go live on August 8th.

Right now, you can grab one of these fun advertising spots at $5 OFF with code LETSPARTY! The FFF concept is still the same (showing off fab bloggers on Fridays, great exposure, lots of fun--eek!), but the blog hop might also include fun writing prompts to give it a refreshing twist. I'm thinking topics ranging from all things travel to just plain ol' everyday life kind of stuff (recipes, DIYs, funny stories, home tours, favorite things, be an expert, a day in the life...the options are endless, really). Sound like a plan? I sure hope so! I'm stoked, you're stoked (you are, I can feel it!)...so let's get this Fresh Face ball rolling again!

Meet you back here on August 8th for the Fresh Face Friday relaunch?
Don't miss it!
