I had an idea in my head about what Rockefeller Center would look like with its giant twinkling tree and promenade all lit up with lights, but what I had in my head wasn't nearly as spectacular as what I actually saw with my own two eyes our first night in the Big Apple. The photos below hardly do it justice, but Rockefeller Center at Christmas is nothing short of magical. Even the hoards of people clambering around us couldn't distract me from the beauty of the soft Christmas lights beaming off the towering skyscrapers above us. Everywhere you looked there was a new set of eyes growing wider as they stood in awe of New York City's finest Christmas display. As the Christmas music streamed from the loud speakers, it was hard not to find yourself feeling all warm and fuzzy (although it was cold and windy!) as the Christmas spirit began to creep in. So, we stood and we smiled, exchanged a thousand "How cool is this?!" sentiments and snapped a slew of photos; then we made our way across 5th Avenue to enjoy another NYC Christmas delight...the Saks holiday windows! All around the outside of the famous department store, their display windows were filled with moving holiday scenes. Just another fun way NYC gets its visitors in the holiday spirit! We also made a stop at St. Patrick's Cathedral beside Saks before hopping the subway to our last stop of the evening, The Empire State Building. The views from the top at night are unbelievable...just you wait and see!

Just a short video of Rockefeller Center. You can see how crowded it was...and how my family doesn't pay any attention to me when I ask them to do things. Geez. Hehe. ;)

Beautiful pictures! I've been there once at Christmas, and it's beautiful, but SO busy that the one time is good enough! :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks incredible. I was there in the summer, I really want to go back in the winter.
ReplyDeleteThe city is GORGEOUS! I haven't been there in years (sad because I'm only two hours away) but after seeing your photos I most definitely miss seeing NYC at Christmastime

ReplyDeleteYour pictures are beautiful! So glad you enjoyed your trip.
ReplyDeleteNYC at Christmas is a magical place, indeed. The tree is bigger and brighter than you can imagine, the store windows are amazing, and the Christmas spirit oozes from an otherwise impersonal city. I'm so glad you got to experience it! We are fortunate to live just a few hours away, but we will be moving next summer, so I'm thinking we have to go back this year!
