Getting to Know You

..Getting to know all about you...

If you busted out the chorus of that famous song from 'The King and I' just then, we can be best friends. Love that movie! Anywho, there have been a lot of new faces lurking around this here blog over the last month or two, and while I've gotten a slurry of sweet comments from a few, I really don't know much about many of you! Today, I want to change that!

I saw this prompt over at these two fabulous slices of blog land, T Times Three and Simply Smithwick (go visit them, they're great!) and just had to "borrow" the idea. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right folks? Right. Blogging has become such a big part of my life over the last year and continues to be such a blessing to me. I never would have imagined that this little hobby of mine would turn into me building lasting friendships with so many other bloggers around the world. Seriously, you guys are amazing! I can't get enough of making new friends (I mean, who can?), and I've got a little over 425 of you fabulous followers that I want to get to know a little better--so here's your chance! Leave me a comment answering the questions below and let's be friends!

Just pretend like we're having coffee. I swear I don't always hold my cups like that. But, go ahead, I'm listening. ;)

===================================================
Who are you? Where are you from?

Do you blog, too? Leave me your link! I want to follow you!

Do you remember how you found my blog? A link-up? Another blog?

How long have you been reading?

What keeps you coming back to my blog?

Anything you'd like to see me blog about more?

What are some things we have in common?

Tell me a fun fact about yourself!

And because I just had to add a random question of my own...
Tell me about the best vacation of your life and why it was so wonderful.
====================================================

Gosh guys, this is going to be fun. And don't feel like you have to stick to these questions, tell me anything! I'm allll ears! Shoot, maybe I'll make this a monthly thing? With different questions each time? Hmm...we'll see.
Can't wait to read your responses!
Happy Thursday, friends!

  1. First off I do now have that song stuck in my head and will probably annoy my staff by humming it today, haha. Secondly.... my name is Brie, I live in Sarasota Florida and I have a blog called Simple Single Girl Life. I do believe I found you through one of the link ups but sadly my mind isn't firing on all pistons at 520am ;) I love your title and just how you make this little corner of the net your own!

  3. Getting to know you, tralalalala...yep, all day I will be singing this.
My name is Daisy and even though I was born and raised in Belgium I now live in southern England.
I do blog, my blog is called Lovely Memories.
As soon as I scrolled down and saw your photo's I remembered you are the girl with the doner kebap picture on the blog, hahaha. Never thought a kebap would trigger my memory. Anyway, I've been a follower since then, possibly found you via a blog hop?
I love all the photo's you post, makes me homesick...Germany and Belgium are so close and we always used to hop across the border, especially around Christmas time. The German Christmas markets are THE BEST!!!
Keep bloggin about your wonderful travels, I love it.
My hubby used to be in the Royal Navy and we were posted out in Gibraltar for nearly three years, so we both have moved countries for the hubsters job. I loved it!
Fun fact? ermmmm...read these I would say

Best vacation? Austria. Absolutely loved all the mountain walks, the views and the food. Would go back in a heartbeat.

  4. Love this and I'm totally going to steal it for a post next week sometime!

    Who are you? Jessica!

Where are you from? Originally, New Mexico, and I can't wait to move back...someday.

Do you blog, too? Leave me your link! I want to follow you! You know it :) jessicalynnwrites.blogspot.com

Do you remember how you found my blog? A link-up? Another blog? Heh..honestly...you offered to write a guest post a year ago and I LOVED it so much. I couldn't believe that I wasn't following you then, but after I read that post I was hooked.

How long have you been reading? More than a year.. woot woot!

What keeps you coming back to my blog? Um. You're awesome.

Anything you'd like to see me blog about more? More recipes! I know you're really into health and fitness, so I'd love to see more about what you're cooking up. I still need to make those meatballs...

What are some things we have in common? Everything. We're basically sisters. Or at least cousins.

Tell me a fun fact about yourself! I'm currently addicted to milk.

And because I just had to add a random question of my own...
Tell me about the best vacation of your life and why it was so wonderful. Oh wow. A dozen trips just popped into my head and they were all with the same person: my husband. Honestly, anywhere I go with him is my favorite, because I'm making new memories with him. Even the trips we've taken where we've had a crappy time or argued or something, are considered the "best" in my book.

  5. Now I really want to watch that!
-My name is Cate, and I live in Indianapolis, IN
-I JUST started blogging...still trying to figure it all out! I'm over at www.alittlebitofspunk.blogspot.com
-I don't quite remember how I found your blog, but I'm glad I did! I love your writing style and pictures, and your relationship with your husband makes me hope I have something like that someday.
-I think I've been following you for about a month now, but I have read all the way back to your first post! (a little bored at work sometimes haha)
-I love seeing pictures of where you take little trips, and your stories about living abroad make me laugh!
    -I think you're doing just fine :)
-as far as I can tell, we're both fiercly devoted to family. And we both have brown hair. That's about it lol. I think we might be the same age?
-I work for an IndyCar team here in Indianapolis! So fun!
-Probably the best vacation(s) of my life took place whenever my family went to Hilton Head Island. We used to do that every year, and it was so fun making fun memories together! I've also been to Austria and Germany, but that was a school trip so I didn't have as much fun as I should have ;)

    This was fun! Thanks!

  6. I'm LOVING the idea of making it a monthly thing... that is what is so great about this whole blog world - we can share and build on ideas. Its awesome! But anyway, you know me :-) I don't know how I stumbled across your blog, but I'm so glad I have. I'm pretty sure I've been reading for close to a year. I LOVE reading your blog because I'm living vicariously through you and your travels. I may just be a tiny bit jealous! And a random fact about me: I can ride a unicycle!

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'm Amanda I blog over at Eloquent English (linked to my name above). I was born in Illinois, but then moved to Arizona, New Mexico, Orlando (FL), Boca Raton (FL), Virginia (DC area) and now I live in North Carolina! You would think by moving that many times I'd be old or something, but I'm 29. =)

I have no idea how I found your blog, but it was recent! I love it! I think for me one of the biggest draws to a blog is the 'set-up'. Does it look clean and interesting? Great pictures and somewhat personal, but not too lengthy of post. I'm pretty sure you nail that!

Fun Fact: I use to have a motorcycle (CBR 600). That'd be a yellow/black crotch rocket. Surprised!?!? LOL I like to live dangerously and I don't like people telling me I'm not capable of doing something. That just makes me want to do it more. LOL

Best Vacation: I'd probably say my honeymoon b/c it was quite adventurous... San Fran, Redwood, Lassen Volcanic Park (yepped hike 2 volcanos!) and ended in Napa. Good trip!

    xoxo

  8. What a fun idea! Let's see...

Who are you? Where are you from? I'm Lindsay, and I'm from Northern Virginia, outside DC.

Do you blog, too? Leave me your link! I want to follow you! I do blog, at Typically Late! www.typicallylate.blogspot.com

Do you remember how you found my blog? A link-up? Another blog? I think that I found your blog via WTF. Pretty sure, anyway!

How long have you been reading? I'm a pretty new reader - just a few months - but I did go back and read some old posts about all your adventures!

What keeps you coming back to my blog? You write well, and you write about great adventures (that I'm pretty jealous of!) - and your posts are just enough pictures, just enough words. Keep it up!

Anything you'd like to see me blog about more? always more about your European travels - helps those of us stateside to travel vicariously!

What are some things we have in common? Military life (I'm an Army brat), Germany (I was born there), and lives with husbands - which is an adventure in itself, I've found.

Tell me a fun fact about yourself! Being that I was born in Germany, I don't have an actual "birth certificate" - I have a "certificate of birth abroad," which states that I was born in a military hospital and am therefore an American citizen.

And because I just had to add a random question of my own...
Tell me about the best vacation of your life and why it was so wonderful.
I think the best vacation of my life was my honeymoon. We went to Jekyll Island, Georgia, and it was the most relaxing, calm, happy week ever, after all the whirlwind from the wedding was over. We had a blast!

  9. I'm Christy from Dallas, TX and I have a blog over at:
    thanksswa.blogspot.com

Not quite sure how I found your blog honestly, but I've been reading for just a month or so :) I love all of your travel adventures and you give me great ideas on what to do when I travel!

Something we have in common? Hmm, well I love me some Chick-fil-a and I am a fellow dog lover!

Something interesting about myself: Well, my husband works for Southwest Airlines, so we're able to travel all over the world for free/very little!

The best vacation I had was my honeymoon...10 days on 3 islands in Hawaii! We're planning on recreating it for our 5 year anniversary.

YAY! This was super cute :)

  10. Happy Thursday! I'm not sure how I found your blog... it must have been via another blog!

My name is Erika and I blog at The Linden Life. I've been blogging since January - so not nearly as long as a lot of the blogs I read, but I am definitely addicted!

I love reading about your European adventures, and I'm impresses/jealous that you got married at such a young age. You and your husband are so lucky to experience all of your adventures together.

One of my favourite holidays was a long weekend to Quebec City a few years ago. I love long weekend trips... you can pack a lot into 3 days!!

I live in Canada with my husband and 15-month son, and hope to add more kids to the mix one day.

I am actually drinking my coffee right now, so it feels somewhat like a 'date'. Have a great day:)

How long have you been reading? At least the summer maybe longer again not sure!

What keeps you coming back to my blog? I love your pictures of places you travel too and your honest and open way of blogging!

Anything you'd like to see me blog about more? Little quirks of life you have noticed in Germany.

What are some things we have in common? We are both Americans living in Europe for reasons relating to our husbands!

Tell me a fun fact about yourself! I do not like to eat fruit!

I live in Va Beach now but in just 7 short days I'll be shipping off to Great Lakes for Navy boot camp. This is officially freak out time!

I think I found your blog through someone else I follow but to be honest I can't remember. You were still living in the states though when I started to follow. That I remember!

I love that you seem real. And I drool over your travel pictures. Makes me excited for the military life I'm about to start.

And my best vacay? Has to be Charleston over Labor Day this year. Could have something to do with getting engaged then.

  13. I'm Ashley. We just moved to Illinois but in my heart I'll always be from Louisiana.

    I blog over at http://this-unscripted-life.blogspot.com/

I found your blog through the blog Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. I love that you both live where I used to live! That nice TLA you stayed in...There used to be apartment buildings there. My husband was deployed, I had a 1 month old baby, and someone shows up at my door to tell me we are being moved to a new building because ours will be torn down to build the new TLA...not fun =)

I think I've been reading for about a week.

I keep reading because I like your stories about living in Germany. You're pretty funny too. I find myself laughing a lot.

Fun fact? Maybe weird fact? I make up songs a lot about random activities. waking up on a Wednesday? Well then it's "Wednesday Wednesday making friends day" lol I don't know why I do it and it's so odd.

The best vacation I've been on was to Garmisch, Germany. We stayed at the Edelweiss resort. It was BEAUTIFUL and there was so much to do.

  14. This is such a fun idea!

    Who are you? Andrea

Where are you from? I grew up in Kentucky, but currently live in New York City.

Do you blog, too? Yes! You can find me at alhadventures.blogspot.com

Do you remember how you found my blog? I found you via a link up regarding travel this past Tuesday! Checked out your blog. Loved it. Became a follower :)

What keeps you coming back to my blog? I haven't been following long, but I am interested to hear about your travels in Europe. I love to travel so it is always good to have a heads up on hidden gems out there! Also, I enjoyed your 30 by 30 list. We had some of the same goals so I thought it would be fun to see your progress on those tasks.

What are some things we have in common? The main thing seems to be a love of adventure/travel. And I see you are a football (or at least a Panthers) fan. My boyfriend and I are planning a weekend trip to Charlotte in November to see them play. Any ideas on things to do or places to eat while we are there are more than welcome :) I think it really caught my eye that we had so many similar items on our 30 by 30 lists.

Tell me a fun fact about yourself! My fun fact is that I have been to all 50 states with my family (mom, dad, and two brothers)! Happy to provide some insight on US travel if you'd like :)

It’s great hearing about the adventures of military life (I grew up a military brat, makes me homesick!!) and seeing the pictures of your travels.

What are some things we have in common?
As mentioned, I was a military brat & was moved around Canada when I was little, plus hubby was in it for a while, so I get the military lifestyle stuff!

One of my best vacations was going to Hawaii with my mom – girls only! All we did for 9 days was shop, eat, swim and drink margaritas on the beat. It was perfect!

I love seeing the witty stories and travel photos on your blog. Makes me all nostalgic and stuff.

A fun fact about myself...hmmm...I am more of a football fan than my husband and can get crazy verbal with the tv during an intense (or sometimes ever boring) game.

The best vacation ever was hands down my honeymoon to the Maldives. Super relaxing and breathtakingly beautiful.

  20. Hey Casey! So, the moment I read your title, I immediately started singing the song and have had it stuck in my head all day long. Thanks a lot. :P lol! My name is Lydia, and I will always claim Pennsylvania as my home, no matter where the Marine Corps sends our little family. I have a wild toddler, a baby on the way, 3 babes in heaven, and a golden retriever puppy. Phewee! Let me tell you, things get crazy in this household, yes maam! I am married to THE most amazing man in the world! He's a Marine, a stud, and my hunk of love. ;)

I actually came across your blog recently through the September Group Give-away by "Living In Yellow." So, I've been following your blog for what, 3 days? I'm so glad I did see your blog though, because I love reading blogs by fellow military wives. There's such a bond the military provides that no one else can seem to understand. I must say that I am royally jealous of the fact that you're stationed in Germany. I've always wanted to go there! Germany is my heritage, and I so badly would love to see the land of my family's past. Ah well. Maybe some day.

I'm pretty much a coffee addict. So when you said, "act like we're just having coffee together," I thought to myself, "Yes! My kind of girl. I can totally do this!" You could hook me up to an IV of coffee, and I'd be the happiest woman alive. Although, I prefer to be able to tast it. They should start doing a Big Buddy size at Starbucks!

Hmm, I'm sure there are lots of fun facts about me, but pregnancy brain has currently pooped them all out of my head. I guess the fact that my husband and I got married only 4 months after meeting is a pretty fun detail. We met, fell in love, and said "why wait?" Best decision ever made! We still had a big wedding and everything. Talk about a whirlwind when you're trying to plan a wedding in two months while working a full-time job and a part-time job. Did I ever sleep? Nope!

My absolute best vacation would have to be when I met my husband. My best friend was dating a Marine a couple states away and wanted to visit her boyfriend. Her car broke down, so she offered to pay if I drove her. I was all about the free road trip. Come on, how can you turn that down? So, we went, and my now-husband happened to be one of the guys sharing a house with my best friend's boyfriend. He (my husband) took me to see the sunrise on the beach, and I was hooked. Yeah, I know, he's amazing! ;)

I do blog too. I pretty much cover every emotion/topic possible in my blog. Sometimes there's tears, sometimes laughter, and sometimes just plain craziness. Depends on the day. It's called, "The Few, The Proud, and This Marine Wife." You can find me over at www.andthismarinewife.blogspot.com

  21. Hi Casey! I'm Megan, and I'm from Maryland -- about 45 minutes south of Washington, D.C. I blog about books, food and life at write meg! I believe I found you through Story of My Life, and I've been reading for about a month or so, maybe?

I love your photography, ex-pat adventures and honest takes on life -- that's what keeps me coming back for more! :) I would love to know even more about life in Germany... it's fascinating to me. I absolutely love to travel and live vicariously through others when I don't have any big travel plans on the horizon.

Our passion for photography is definitely something we have in common -- as well as our closeness to our families, devotion to our guys and love of the pumpkin spice latte. (In fact, I have a PSL taste test post up on my site today! I'm quite serious about the PSL.)

A fun fact about me -- I'm a newspaper columnist, so I devote a ridiculous amount of time to chronicling the funny and/or embarrassing things that happen to me. It makes them slightly less horrifying when I can reflect on them in retrospect... and the column has taught me not to take myself too seriously. I feel very lucky.

  23. Oh! And I don't think I could narrow down my absolute favorite vacation, so I'm going to pick two: a trip to California last May with my boyfriend, where I gorged on cheese and wine and fell in love with San Francisco, Yosemite and Monterey; and a trip last year with my family to Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales, where I made a fool of myself slipping into a British accent (awkward) and took more than 2,000 photos, though I still wish I had more.

  25. Hi Casey!!

I'm Laura and I am a new follower! I have no idea how I came across your blog but it was very recent- like last week- my memory is worse than I thought!!

I'm from Texas but am about to make a big move to South Africa with my husband for about a year! That's why I was drawn to your blog- I wanted to follow someone who was also living away from the US and see their fun adventures! It's such a big move so seeing that someone else has gone through a similar change in scenery makes it all seem doable for me!

I blog at lorrinteriors.blogspot.com but I am also hoping to start a blog about our move for friends and family to follow along during our adventure!

Some things we have in common... we'll I am still new here so I don't know a whole lot about you yet- but I am from the south, I also have a fear of sleeping with a door open and my parents have a wienie dog named Tucker!!

The best vacation I ever had would have to be (cop out answer I know) but our honeymoon to Maui! We had such a great time and I get jealous when I see someone else go! I can't wait to go back!!

Can't wait to get to know you more!!

Hmmm...I'm not sure - off and on for a good while. Faithfully since you started posting about your family European vacay.

What keeps you coming back to my blog? Because I think you just may be a kindred spirit :-) (do you like the "Anne" movies?)

Anything you'd like to see me blog about more? I'm never good about answering those kinds of questions...

What are some things we have in common? Ummmm...refer to previous e-mail correspondence ;-)

Tell me a fun fact about yourself!
I was a ballerina for over 20 years.

And because I just had to add a random question of my own...
Tell me about the best vacation of your life and why it was so wonderful.
That's a toughy. I'd say maybe between Prince Edward Island, and Victoria BC? Ha! Two opposite ends of Canada, that's ironic! They were both full to the brim of amazing beauty, rest, and fun!

And now I feel like I've just written a blog post of my own :-). Might have to copy this idea Casey - such a fun one! Talk soon...

Do you remember how you found my blog? A link-up? Another blog?
Hmm... I think I found your blog via Kellys Korner? I am not quite sure. I know I was looking for blogs of military families in Germany as we had just gotten our orders.

How long have you been reading?
I've been reading for around 6 months or so.

What keeps you coming back to my blog?
I LOVE to hear of your fun trips! Being new to Germany, we need ideas! ;)

Anything you'd like to see me blog about more?
    Travel?!

What are some things we have in common?
Military life, travelling, stationed in Germany...

Tell me a fun fact about yourself!
I am not sure I have a fun fact per say. I have a wonderful husband, two of the best kiddos in the world and I love our life in the military. It is a great journey leading to amazing people and amazing places!

And because I just had to add a random question of my own...
Tell me about the best vacation of your life and why it was so wonderful.

Our best vacation is a toss up. Each one is great for very different reasons. We LOVED Guam (the best beach with blue water (perfect for snorkeling, and GORGEOUS weather, but China was wonderful (incredible sites and great shopping) and Thailand was pretty amazing too (canoeing in caves, elephant trekking, Thai food, and sun and sand). See, each great for very different reasons. Those are my top 3!

Living abroad (!), love of travel, close family

-Tell me a fun fact about yourself!

-Tell me about the best vacation of your life and why it was so wonderful.
In college, I lived in Spain for a year. I loved every city I went to IN Spain, but by FAR the best trip outside of Spain I took during that time was to Portugal. If you and your husband get a chance to go there- DO IT! I recommend Lagos in Southern Portugal. A.MAZ.ING!

  41. Okay, first of all, I'm a theatre gal and totally have that whole song running through my head right now!

My name is Melanie, and I'm from Seattle, but I'm currently living abroad in London for school.

I did find your blog through a link-up {specifically Nine to Five's favorite post one}.

Just started reading, but I'm now in love with your blog so I think I'll stick around!

I love how personable you are on your blog, and how easily it translates into feeling like we're just chatting over coffee or something without the computer screens and keyboards. Also, I love that you made a theatre reference. Always a way to hook me!

That little bit of theatre, plus the fact that we're both living abroad are things we have in common. {I'll be in Germany, specifically Berlin, in late October - any suggestion or recommendation for things to do/see?} Also, you seem to like coffee, to which I am addicted, so that works splendidly!

Fun fact: I always use the little sample spoons to eat my ice cream instead of the regular spoons.

Best vacation of my life would have to be right now, in Europe. I mean, I know it's for school but it honestly feels like vacation! Too good to be true!

I'm a new follower from a few weeks back and I love that you embrace the joy that is coffee, girl!

I'm from just outside of Boston and I blog at "this little light" {www.shinethislight.com}.

I can hear The Boy waking up so I have maybe 30 seconds to complete this comment or it'll hang in cyberspace forever, but my favorite vacation was to Italy in 2008 ... I went with my husband, son, and my husband's parents, who were born there ... it was AMAZING!

    Enjoy your day!

I imagine I'll keep coming back because I like what I've read so far- you're an entertaining writer. Since I'm new, I'm not sure what I'd like to see more of, but I'll let you know if I think of anything later. :)

One thing that we have in common is that we love to travel! Rome is the best place I've ever been and I want to live there someday!

A fun fact... hmm. I love art!
