It's Wedding Week!

No, no one is getting married. At least not this week. But it is the week that D and I will celebrate our 4th year of wedded bliss! What an awesome 4 years it has been! Our anniversary is on Thursday, but I thought it would be nice to devote a couple of posts to revisiting some of our favorite events leading up to the big day! Then, of course, the last post in this mini-wedding series will be devoted to showcasing the most memorable parts of our wedding day! I know this is a departure from blogging about all things German and our new life in a foreign country, but I'm needing a break from the adventure. I'm in the mood to reminisce for a bit. All of the photos I'll share this week bring back so many great memories of how madly in love we both were during that special time in our lives together...and reconfirm how much in love we still are, even more so than 4 years ago! Remembering that time in our lives still brings tears to my eyes! I promise I'll get back to our regularly scheduled programming next week. But, for now, I'm excited to share a little blip in our love story (Ok, so maybe it's not little, per se, but it is just a short time in our almost 11 years of life together). You can read how it all started for Team Cote HERE.

Now, on to the memories! First up, our engagement!

D is such a clever guy. He used to make crossword puzzles and games for me to figure out...and they all would be made with clues that were related to our relationship. He's so cute! So, that must be where he got the idea to send me on an Easter Egg Hunt as a way to lead up to his proposal! It was appropriately called "Cote's Easter Egg Extravaganza!" and came complete with game instructions.

Here I am reading the instructions for the hunt. I thought this was just another one of his sweet ways to give me a gift. It was Easter weekend and I was totally expecting some sort of chocolate bunny!  I had NO CLUE what was about to happen to me. My Mom and Dad walking around with a camera should have tipped me off. To make a long story short, D strategically placed each egg in a location around my parent's home that had some sort of significance to our relationship. For example, there was one egg hidden beside the family basket ball goal in the driveway where we used to spend hours shooting hoops after school together. Each egg had a note inside of it giving me a clue to where the next egg would be hidden. The last egg was hidden here, on the back deck, where D and I shared our first kiss under the stars! The last egg had a note that read, "I've wanted to do this since we started college, I've wanted to do this since Christmas, I've wanted to do this since Valentine's Day." At this point, I realized what he was referring to. Then he got down on one knee and I completely lost it.

Tears everywhere!! I could barely form a complete sentence!

Finally, a "YES" made it's way out of my mouth...and the rest is history!

ENGAGED! April 15, 2006...we look so young, and SO different. D looks as handsome as ever...but I'm happy to report I'm at least 32 lbs. lighter now than in that photo. Ugh. I almost can't look. But, I digress.

The rock! He did an amazing job. Ah-mazing.

Cut to a few months later and our parents threw us a lovely engagement party with all of our close friends and family!

Happy couple!

We are so blessed to have such great friends and family who wanted to celebrate with us!

One of the best parts about getting married is getting to dress up and have professional photos taken of basically every wedding event under the sun! Here are a few of my favorite photos from our engagement session with our wedding photographer Doug Rice at Allure Photography.

It was unseasonably cold and windy that day. We were both trying to look happy and carefree, all the while we're freezing and slightly miserable. Nevertheless, he got some good shots!

D doesn't really like to be in front of the camera, so this was extra hard for him. Having to pretend to be talking about something hilarious while walking down a steep hill in the bitter cold is strange and abnormal, but he was such a trooper!

This one is my favorite and is what we used in our local newspaper engagement announcement!

Stay tuned for more wedding week recaps! Thanks for stopping by!

  1. What a great engagement story! I must ask - how'd you lose 32 pounds?!

  2. @Eights on the Move

Thank you!! As for the weight...it has taken me a little over 2 years to work off...just because I fall off the wagon every once in a while and the weight loss gets stagnant. I've still got about 10-15 lbs to go before I'm at my ideal weight. Basically, I started running, circuit training, and really buckling down on the healthy eating habits. I graduated college with a degree in Nutrition and that really jump started the whole weight loss thing...the running helped drop it fast. I've kind of hit a plateau right now. I think it's from all the moving and eating differently due to our current living situation! lol Anywho, I've started the running again and hopefully that pesky 10 lbs will be outta here by Halloween!! Fingers crossed!
