Coffee Talk v.6

  • YOU GUYS. I know this is SO last week's news...but my hair was on BUZZFEED! So what if it was a photo of my sunglasses stuck in my hair? Hey...I'll take my 15 minutes any way I can get it. In fact, I got emails and text messages from friends I hadn't talked to in YEARS because they saw that article. Proof that if I ever won the lottery, I'd probably have to go into hiding. Nevertheless, it was a fun day for me. Original photo can be found here
  • A friend posted this hilarious video on my FB timeline this week. If you guys knew Tuck, my adorable mini-weenie dog, you'd know that this is EXACTLY something he would do. Not to mention, the pup in this video looks almost exactly like him! What funny little dogs they are. And determined! Gosh, I can't wait to see my boy again.
  • And then I found this weenie dog water race and died from adorableness overload. DIED.
  • Ok so be real with me, you guys are lying about liking coconut water, right? You've got to be. It tastes like dirty bath water. Surely no one really likes it. Help me understand!
  • Speaking of healthy things...we've got 65 days until our cruise (yay!!) and I've been amping up my workouts and getting back into the swing of following my favorite Tone It Up nutrition plan. Have you guys ever tried TIU? I really love it. One of the only workout/nutrition plans I've ever stuck to and had results. There's just something about watching someone workout in a bikini that really makes me want to try harder. Probably the abs...and the fact that they can do almost any workout move and not have a boob pop out. I'm constantly impressed.
  • If you have MyFitnessPal, follow me and keep me accountable...pretty please?
  • And I have to tell you this last health-related thing…I swapped my usual TIU series of workouts today to try a new HIIT Cardio & Abs Tabata-style workout I found on YouTube. I made it through 45 minutes before my living room got so hot that I had to stop for fear of passing out. HARD. CORE. 4 weeks ago, I would have stopped at 20 minutes. Progress, people. Progress. Give it a try and tell me what you think!
  • D and I are total TV bingers. This article, it's us. So us. Lately, we've been binge-watching House of Cards, Mike & Molly (so dang funny) and this week, we finished Breaking Bad (thank you for finally posting those last 8 important episodes, Netflix!). Up next will probably either be Entourage, Homeland (we never finished season 2 or 3), or Downton Abbey (although D's gonna need some convincing for that one). Thoughts?
  • Speaking of TV shows (you had to know this one was coming), we've finally reached the end of Juan Pablo's Bachelor run. Praise the Lord! Raise your hand if you knew he was going to pick Nikki? {raises hand} Now, raise your hand if you thought she'd accept his rose AND sit on the couch snuggled up to him on 'After the Rose' even after he refused to tell her he loves her? Yeah, me either. What a sad, naive little woman that Nikki is. I can't tell if she's trying to save face by pretending she's ok with JP's lack of love, or if she's really just that stupid. All I know is that you could feel the tension radiating off Sean & Catherine. "Don't slap the hand that fed you!" --GO CATHERINE! She had her sassy pants on that night! And bless Chris Harrison's reality TV show host heart. He has the patience of a saint.
  • True story: I bought a romper and a kimono jacket this week. I'm feeling rather jazzed about them, even though I tend to stray away from trends as they're trendy (I'm typically late to the party). I hope the way I envision them on me in my head is exactly how they'll look when they finally come in the mail. But, don't expect any awkward OOTD posts. Chances are I'll send them back. Online shopping is the devil.
  • How I take my coffee at home: one pack of Truvia and a splash of unsweetened almond milk.
  • How I take my coffee at a coffee shop: a café au lait with 1 raw sugar packet, or a skinny vanilla latte with a dash of cinnamon, or a mochaccino, or anything seasonal (hello, PSL!) in the tall, non-fat, no whip form.
  • Thanks to Glee, last week I rekindled my love for the trio Wilson Phillips. My 9 to 11-year-old self went through 3 of their cassette tapes having 'Hold On' and 'You're In Love' on repeat back in the day. In high school, my best friend and I used to road trip to Wilson Phillips. And when Bridesmaids featured 'Hold On' in Maya Rudolph's wedding at the end of the movie, I'm pretty sure I got teary eyed, stood up, and danced in the movie theater. Wilson Phillips reunion? I say YES.
  • Anyone ever been to Valletta, Malta or Catania, Sicily? We need recommendations for sight-seeing/tours in both cities. We're thinking a day trip to Mt. Etna and Taormina in Sicily, but we wonder if just spending the day in Taormina would be enough. We hear it's GORGEOUS. Wouldn't want to shortchange gorgeousness.
  • Wine bottle count as of today: 131...and counting.
  • Beer bottle count as of today: 293...and counting. Wanna know what my favorite beer is? Read all about it here (thanks, eTramping!)!
  • I really love how Europe has an affinity for having a matching glass to go with every beverage. Like, if we were at Starbucks right now having our coffee talk, we'd be drinking out of ceramic coffee mugs, not paper cups. Seriously. I'm going to miss that attention to detail when we're back in America.
  • I hate to end this coffee talk on a not so nice note, but I found out some not so great things about my grandma's health this past week. The "C" word was mentioned. Never a good thing. If you're the praying type, would you mind sending a few up for my grandma and my family. Plans are still being made and issues are still being assessed, so we're hopeful...but nervous. These are the times when being far from home really freaking sucks. :(
  • Annnndd we still don't know where we're moving. $%#*@&#$!!

What's the word? Anything on your mind today?

** Oh…and just so everyone is aware, I'll be shutting down Fresh Face Friday Blog Hop (and the ad spot) temporarily for the month of May and possibly June & July. I know, SAD FACE! We'll be on vacation most of May, so I figured a break for my brain would be nice. In lieu of FFF, I've opened up Vacation Guest Posting ad spots to help fill in some gaps while we're gone. This worked SUPER well the last time we went on a lengthy vaycay, so I'm giving it another go (you can read more details about the guest posting opportunity in my ad shop on my sponsor page)! Once we know when we're officially packing out and moving, I'll determine if I'll open back up the FFF hop and ad spot for June/July or if I'll need more guest posters. For now, I've still got 5 Fresh Face Friday ad spots left to fill for April. If you want in, grab one at 25% OFF with code SPRINGFLING from now until Monday!**

  1. I am with you, do people actually like coconut water because I think it tastes like dirty water as well!

  2. Definitely head over to The Stroke as Jess has lived in Malta for years. She's also travelled pretty extensively in Sicily so there's bound to be good advice there as well :)

  3. Not sure what the commissary is like over there, but if you can find a flavored coconut water, try that. Pineapple, for example, tastes a million times better than "regular" flavor.

Can you please hurry up and find out where you're moving to? I'm on pins and needles over here :)

Also, is that a Nove mug I spy? I have a similar one in pink :)

  4. When Fredrik was going to a junior college in California he was always coming home with stuff they were handing out on campus for free and one day it was coconut water, they gladly gave him two when he asked so we could both try it and he was so excited. Ugh we gagged so hard on that nasty stuff, I told him after that I only want proper food things!

  5. I think your hair being on Buzzfeed is super cool! :) If that was me, I'd be calling everybody to see if they saw it. LOL

  6. I hope this is blog appropriate, but peresonally I've never tried coconut water and have no urge to do so ever since one of my friends said it tastes like cum. So yeah you're not alone in not liking it.

  8. Coconut water in smoothies FOR SURE! On it's own... meh.

Also: every time your "My Fitness Pal" updates go on Twitter, I silently cheer you on. Every time. No lie!

  9. Love your Coffee Talks. :) Thanks for accepting me as a friend on MFP. I need to more accountable on there. I was doing great, then not so great. But hey - I haven't gained back! :)

  10. That buzzfeed article is amazing. You're famous! Thick hair is both a curse and a blessing. Agreed with everything about TIU. And I'm praying for your grandma! My mom had cancer five years ago so I understand the situation. Praying that it's not cancer!

    1. HAHA thank you!! I feel famous!! Kidding, kind of. ;)
Thank you for the prayers…unfortunately, it is cancer. So we're navigating the treatment options now. Long road ahead, but she's a feisty one!

  14. Love the Coffee Talk, great idea! First off, I'm sorry to hear about your Grandma and I understand it's hard to be away. I'm on the fense about coconut water, sometimes I can't stand it and other times it's refreshing. I know... make up my mind already. :) I do have to say that it's perfect in smoothies.

    1. Thank you so much, Daidri! After all the comments I've gotten, I might have to give it a try in a smoothie. Probably would be the only way I could tolerate it! :)

  15. looking to binge on another amazing show on netflix: the returned.
    you're welcome in advance.
seriously - we can't stop watching and its an 8 episode season (in french with english subtitles, trust me you won't even notice its that good!) and released in 2012 we just frantically searched to see if they did more seasons - sundance picked it up since it's "becoming a global sensation" and are starting to film season 2. SOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD.

  16. I can't drink coconut water, I've tried and, no. How far before moving did you start buying wine? And beer? I didn't even think about the beer part! But we are in France, so we will likely be buying buckets of wine. I mean cases. LOL

  17. Coconut water is good when it's fresh from a coconut... like cracking it, dumping the water into a glass with ice and eating the coconut meat while sipping on the water fresh. I can't stand the coconut water you buy in stores... fresh straight from the coconut is so much better!

I'm so sorry to hear about your grandma- good thoughts and prayers to your family. We're going through recently diagnosed breast cancer with my mom and I'm far away from her so I know how much it sucks to be so far away! Please feel free to send me an email if you ever need to chat about the scary "c word" or about how difficult it is being so far away from family!

  18. I just want to jump on the Wilson Phillips bandwagon. In high school, my best friend and I used to cruise around in her old car blasting Hold On and singing at the top of our lungs, especially when one of us was feeling down. It never failed to make me feel better.

I'm thinking and praying about your grandma.

  19. Downton Abbey is the absolute best! My husband was skeptical at first and now he loves it as much as I do!

    1. I've actually watched the half of the first season, but forgot what was happening. I remember liking it, so I'm sure we'll pick it back up with no problems!

  20. I feel the same way about coconut water--is it just one of those things everyone forces themselves to like because it's insanely good for you? I've also seen all these posts about cauliflower "cream" sauce...I need to try it out, but I'm skeptical, because can that really take the place of cream?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I love Downton Abbey! I haven't finished watching season 4 yet but am hoping to finish that up soon. I'll be praying for your grandmother and you and your family: for strength, for comfort, for peace.

  22. Wait, we can ship BEER back to the states, too? I always thought it wasn't allowed (something about the carbonation and bottles exploding in cargo containers over the Atlantic). If this is true, be still me heart.

    1. WE CAN!!! Well, it depends on the moving company you get contracted with, but the majority of friends that have left before us have shipped boatloads of beers and wine back stateside! We've been stocking up for months now! :)

  23. 1. That's so awesome that you were on Buzzfeed!
2 & 3. Awww, weenie dogs are so stinkin' cute!
    4. Coconut water is gross! I can't jump on that bandwagon.
    5. Definitely going to check out Tone It Up!
    6. I don't use My Fitness Pal but I've heard great things. However, I'm totally loving my Fitbit Zip and it's working really well for me!
    7. 45 minutes?! I wouldn't have lasted that 20 you were talking about!
    8. DOWNTON ABBEY FOR THE WIN. My husband watched most of it with me and found it pretty interesting. Also, I've started watching Scandal on Netflix and it's amazing.
    9. I didn't even watch this season because he seemed like such a sleazeball!
    10. I've always wanted to try a romper but I don't think I could pull it off.
    11. I don't drink coffee too much at home but when I do, I usually put a splash of Coconut Creme Coffeemate in it. Hello, summer!
    12. I love a non-fat, no whip white chocolate mocha from Starbuck's!
    13. The end of Bridesmaids was totally my favorite part! And I had it on repeat for weeks after!
    14. JEALOUS OF THE GORGEOUSNESS YOU WILL ENCOUNTER!
    15. Impressive!
    16. VERY impressive!
    17. I crave attention to detail. I think Europe and I would get a long in that respect!
    18. Definitely keeping you and your family in my prayers!
    19. UGH. I would have lost my mind by now! :)

Not sure why I felt the need to respond like this but it may be an indication of how much time I have. Maybe a little TOO much time. :)

  24. You know I love these!!!
    Buzzfeed... WHAT?! That's plain awesome.
Coconut water... I was sadly disappointed when I tried it. I love coconut milk and coconut flavored things (oddly I don't like actual coconut though) so I figured that coconut water would be my new favorite... nope... dirty water indeed.
    The Bachelor... I can't, I just can't. #GRRRR
I've been on a romper hunt lately, it's moved from the 'want' to the 'need' list at this point.
I will be keeping your grandmother and your family in my prayers xo

  26. Casey - Yeyah for Buzzfeed, I love that picture - especially your awesome #sunglassesfail expression! :)

Regarding Sicily, I've spent some time in Catania with a day trip to Taormina. You're absolutely right, it IS absolutely gorgeous. I'd say that an overnight would definitely be great way to truly embrace the town but it's not necessarily the case that there's a giant must-do list there. We drove down for the day from Catania and hung out on the beach for awhile, had a ridiculously yummy pizza, some wine, wandered the town, then headed home. I didn't feel like I'd missed anything nor felt rushed. If you get a chance, check out Bourdain's Part's Unknown episode in Sicily, it's just... interesting (ahem, the extortion rate is shocking).

    Have fun!

  27. That is SO cool that you are on Buzzfeed! :)

I can't believe the JP/Nikki thing either. I'm so glad with how Clare handled the whole situation.

  28. Thank goodness you don't like coconut water either; I thought I was the only one! And I love Tone It Up and agree that it is the only workout program that's kept me motivated. Nobody needs to remind me how many days there are until summer lol

  29. So basically you are now a celebrity since Buzzfeed as taken over as most people's main form of content reading :)

  30. I love coconut water! I will admit that the first time I tried it I thought it was nasty. It's definitely an acquired taste. Try drinking it with a splash of lime juice.

  31. Sending up lots of prayers for your family. Is that a VBC mug? I think I saw it (or something similar). I need to get out there again for a shopping spree.

  32. I am loving TIU but I haven't done any nutrition plans. I just love their workout videos. They are so motivating!!

Also, I do NOT like coconut water. I'll use it in a smoothie to cover up the taste but that is it!
