Meersburg, Germany

Day 2 (you can find photos from Day 1 here) of our anniversary vacation to Lake Constance started out with breakfast on the patio looking out at the turquoise lake water. I'm still in awe of Germany and its insanely beautiful lakes. They must be the cleanest lakes in the world to be so blue. Can't find lake water like that in the states (or if you can, I've never been there). The town was so quiet that you could hear the water slapping up against the rocks on the shore, even from our apartment. This place was so peaceful, so reviving, that I could have parked myself on that lounge chair all day and been the happiest person in the world. But, for the sake of getting the most out of our lake vacation, we decided to spend our first full day exploring Mainau Island. This was no ordinary island. It's known as "Flower Island" or "Butterfly Island" to its visitors because every inch of this lakeside paradise is covered in...you guessed it...flowers!

But, let me back up a bit. In order to get to this island of flowers, you have to catch a ferry from the harbor in the town adjacent to Hagnau (where we were staying) called Meersburg. Meersburg is yet another one of those cute kitschy German towns that have rows of colorful timbered houses and restaurants filled with sausages, wine barrels, and dozens of happy Germans. What was even more lovely about this little place was that it kind of felt like a resort town. It was obvious everyone there was on holiday, carrying around fishing poles and floppy beach hats without a single care in the world. My kind of vacation town, for sure. We wandered around Meersburg for a while before we had to hop the ferry to Mainau Island, but I made darn sure I got all the photos I could of this awesome little lake town before we left. Enjoy, friends!

Oh and by the way, Oktoberfest was BANANAS. Like, I almost have no words. Ok, y'all know that's not entirely true, but I do have a crap-ton of photos to show you (and a few videos, too!). As if you didn't already know, Germany really knows how to party. I'm mean REALLY party. I almost couldn't hang. Almost. :) I'm happy to report that we all made it out alive and with some pretty amazing memories to boot. Might have to write that post up sooner rather than later, huh?
Happy Tuesday, loves!
