Along the Antrim Coast of Northern Ireland, there is a rope bridge suspended 98 feet above the turquoise sea. This bridge connects mainland Ireland to a small cliff top island called Carrick-a-Rede (meaning "rock of the casting"). On Day 3 of our Ireland adventure, D and I experienced the Northern coast and an exhilarating walk across this swinging rope bridge. For those bold enough to walk the half-mile shoreline footpath, climb down the steep stairwell, and carefully step across the rope bridge…they're rewarded with some spectacular views, breathtaking cliffside vistas, and another quick peek at the Southernmost tip of Scotland. Back in the day, this bridge was used by fishermen coming to catch salmon off the shores of Carrick-a-Rede island. Today, it's used to give tourists an adrenaline rush, as well as some unforgettable sights along the imposing Irish coastline. This bridge reminded me a lot of the swinging rope bridge at Grandfather Mountain back home in North Carolina…only less steep and much shorter. While definitely not for the faint of heart, D and I crossed that thing like champs…and if they'd let me stay there all day, I would have! I still can't get over the gorgeousness of Ireland. If you find yourself on the Antrim Coast near Ballintoy, make a quick stop for a lovely seaside stroll and blood-pumping walk across the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge. The natural beauty is beyond comparison. Just don't look down! ;)

So so stunning! These photos embody everything that I imagine Ireland to be :)
ReplyDeleteI stopped by the side of the road by that bridge and I thought....nope noooope nope. Glad you had more courage than me!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha! Sometimes you've just gotta do it. I'm not sure I'll ever be back, so it was worth the little bit of fear. Very fun, though! :)
DeleteSo beautiful. I've never wanted to visit Ireland more than I do now...your posts from your recent trip have been fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYAY! Thanks, Amy!
DeleteBeautiful! Thank you for once again brightening my day with your photos :)
ReplyDeleteAlways my pleasure! :)
DeleteThe scenery is absolutely breathtaking, but the bridge gives me heart palpitations. I'm not sure when exactly it happened, but sometime as an adult I have gained a fear/anxiety of both bridges and getting close to the edge on heights. Not necessarily of heights though. When I'm close to the edge, I get anxiety about dropping something off the edge or falling off of it. I wish it would go away. :)
ReplyDeleteI saw that when I was there and turned around and headed to the tea shop instead so bravo to you!!
ReplyDeleteUm, this looks amazing!! I would love to do this if I ever make it to Ireland!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely do! :)
DeleteWoah, this looks absolutely awesome, definitely adding this to my ever-increasing Ireland bucket list.
ReplyDeleteWe weren't able to make it to the side with the bridge, but I wish we had because it looks incredible! So much fun!

It looks amazing !
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness I do not think I would be able to walk across that bridge I am scared of open heights but it does look amazing
ReplyDeleteIt was a little nerve wracking, but so much fun!
DeleteNice! We went to Ireland earlier this year and I had no idea this was a thing. It's crazy how much you miss! I guess no two trips can be the same.
ReplyDeleteThere is SO much to see in Ireland...we barely scratched the surface!!
DeleteBeautiful photos - the green background of Ireland really makes your red hair pop...or is it the other way around? :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Christy!! :)
DeleteWow! Sitting on the edge of a cliff and now walking across a rope bridge...that's courage! All of these beautiful pictures are making me bump Ireland up on the travel to do list.
ReplyDeleteDude I'd TOTALLY go! Swinging rope bridges are my jam. Kind of. Until someone starts jumping really hard up and down behind me.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Ireland photos yet again!
The views are stunning, but I would be terrified! When we were at Grandfather Mountain, it was snowing at the top of the mountain and I refused to cross the bridge. I'm afraid of heights under normal conditions and there was no way it was happening in a snowstorm!
